According to YouTube the answer is NO.
Some people think that if you buy youtube views you are going against the rules, that you are somehow cheating your way to the top…
The truth is, you are just increasing your chances to be heard out there and stand out from the competition, pretty much like the way wearing a nice suit in a job interview can affect the outcome of the encounter.
And hey, YouTube infact wants you to pay for your views. Didn’t know about this? Then you might want to read about YouTube Promoted Videos.
![]()
YouTube Promoted Videos is the official advertisement platform (and a powerful source of income for the company) that works pretty closely with Google AdWords and let’s people highlight and recommend their videos to the millions of YouTube users that visit the website every day.
Of course there is a price to it, and it is not exactly… cheap.
Here is an overview taken from the free pdf that you can download from their site:
YouTube Promoted Videos brings the power of search advertising to YouTube. An
easy-to-use tool, Promoted Videos enables video content owners to promote their
videos across YouTube through a dynamic, auction-based marketplace.
How does it work?

Use Promoted Videos to surface your video on YouTube every time someone
searches for related keywords. Choose your video, select your keywords, set your own
budget, and adjust your campaigns at any time.
Basically, YouTube will put your video in a small module on their homepage rotating with other promoted videos and also on top of the search results for your given keywords. Once your budget runs out your video is no longer promoted and are back to being a regular “youtuber”.
Sounds like it something you’d try right? Well, let’s take a look at the real cost of it…
How Much does it Cost?
Promoted Videos allow you to choose the maximum amount you’re willing to pay each time a user clicks on your promotion. This is called your maximum cost-per-click (or max CPC) bid.
Let’s say you set your budget to $20 and you tell YouTube that every click to your video is worth 10 cents. That means you will be “promoted” until 200 people clicks on your video.
That to me doesn’t look like a cheap way to get more views to your videos…
There is also a nice case study pdf that you can download about the company ZAGG, these guy who invented the Invisible Shield screen protection film for mobile phones, iphones and other random gadgets.
Here is what they said about their experience buying youtube views:
“Our Promoted Videos campaign was a huge success. We were able to drive
qualified leads and success was easy to measure. In fact, our campaign on YouTube
performed better than many of our other ad programs.”
-Packer
vice president of marketing, ZAGG Inc.
Alejandro.
