A few weeks ago I did a contest on YouTube to try to increase my subscribers “exponentially” (more on this later).
The results, after only a week, were quite impressive…
Over a thousand new subscribers and increased rate of new subscriptions per day that is still growing today.
How did I do it?
Easy…
I made an easy contest that everyone could enter just by leaving a comment because I know from experience that video-response contests usually get less entries due to people being lazy. Well, they actually had to do a bit more, add my channel to their “other channels box” 
It was a treasure hunt kind of contest with a hidden “unlisted video” that people had to find and comment on.
The unlisted video contained the instructions and rules to enter and qualify for the prize (a very rare deck of playing cards worth over $150)
The cool thing is that I didn’t use a camera to record the “secret unlisted video”. It was 100% screencast with voice over. That’s it.
I think I never got so many comments in a video in so little time. Over 700 entries in just a few days and a few thousand new subscribers since due to people adding me to the recommended channels box.
I have a mac so I used screenflow to create my screencast video but I also tried camtasia in the past (back when I was an unsatisfied windows user) and an online tool called screenr.com when I was an ubuntu geek (you gotta try them all!)
Screencast videos are fun and really easy to do, specially if you are camera shy or haven’t invested in a cool HD camera yet.
I could talk for weeks about screencast tips and tricks on all platforms but fortunately Dave Kaminski, author of Flip Camera Secrets, has just released a new product called “How to screencast like a pro“.
I’m going to be honest, I learned to screencast via trial and error and I didn’t quite enjoy it at first. I’d say it took me a few months to be able to produce decent screencast videos without spending three days editing and figuring out things.
If I knew about Dave’s newproduct back then I would have probably got it. Seeing how good Flip Camera Secrets is I can vouch for the quality of this new Kaminski product.
