Use YouTube HOT SPOTS To Get More Views And Subscribers

I know most of you don’t give a damn about youtube insights but if you want to be a pro youtuber you’ll have to learn how to use all the information that’s packed inside that boring place, all the graphics and stats and analytics and numbers and… STAY WITH ME!

I’m not going to let you fall asleep, what I’m going to do is show you a practical way to put all that raw data into good use right now.

I’m talking about the Hot Spots section in your youtube video insights so go grab a cup of coffee and let’s get this out of the way as soon as possible.

Here is a little video taken from Dave Powers’ awesome Online Video 4 Profit course where he talks about how he uses the hot spots to find which parts of his videos get more attention and when that attention drops and makes his viewers go away.

I know you’ve progressed a lot and now have a better understanding of YouTube so I’m pretty sure you are already getting an idea of where I’m going.

I’m going to teach you how use the hot spots feature to get more views to your other videos, make people subscribe to you or drive traffic to an external website or blog (if that’s what you want).

Here is the magic recipe:

  • A video that has been on youtube for at least a week.
  • YouTube Insights -> Hot Spots
  • Good ol’ pen and paper
  • YouTube Annotations
  • YouTube Subscription Direct Link
  • A Website or Blog (optional)

Simply go to any one of your videos and click the insights button, get on the Hot Spots section and find the places of your video when people pay more attention. Note down the exact seconds when that happens in a piece of paper.

YouTube Annotations To Link To Your Videos

Open the annotations editor for your video and move the scroll bar to match those hot spots. That’s where you want to enter your annotations to link to your other videos, here are some examples:

  • Click here for part two of this video series
  • Learn how to do this yourself with this video tutorial
  • Behind the scenes footage (clicky!)
  • Check out this video for more info

YouTube Annotations To Get More Subscribers

Use the annotations and Hot Spots as a “call to action” (sub magnet?) message to ask your viewers to subscribe to you. Simply use this link inside the annotation and they’ll be taken to your subscription page.

http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=YOURUSERNAME

Don’t forget to change YOURUSERNAME for your actual youtube username (I know, I know… but sometimes people email me for dumber things…)

YouTube Annotations To Drive Traffic To Your Website

If you put your website url on a youtube annotation it won’t be clickable because you can only link to pages inside youtube. So make your annotation very visible and use www instead of http (easier on the eye and more brandable).

Make it something like [ www.HowToGetViews.com ] with the cheesy capitals there (it actually works).

If you have a product you are trying to sell this is a great way to drive potential customers to your sales pages or offers. I’ve done some 1 on 1 coaching with a couple of book writers and they got great results using all this stuff.

Don’t overlook it!

So that’s pretty much the basics of it, if you want to learn more about this and other advanced youtube tips from a friend and youtube partner superstar check out Dave’s Online Video 4 Profit course.

Did I say he makes a hundred dollars every single day with google adsense and his partner account?
